Guest Conductor Jon Rosenthal
Jon Rosenthal was born in Chicago and was raised in the suburbs there. He began classical piano lessons at age 4 and took those for 11 years. In school Jon learned violin in 4th grade, drums/percussion in 6th grade, and trumpet in 8th grade. In high school he specialized in percussion. Upon graduating high school he went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and majored in music education. Jon was a band director in the Chicago area for 4 years before moving to Kansas to start his Master’s degree at the University of Kansas. He graduated from there in 2000 with a Master's Degree in Wind (Band) Conducting. He has a total of 11 years of public school teaching experience. At his last school he was Director of Instrumental Music for middle and high school, which included conducting the band and the orchestra. Currently Jon is the Assistant Director of Bands at Lebanon HS in Lebanon, TN. From a writing/arranging standpoint, Jon has been doing that since high school as well. He has written and/or arranged music for many different types of ensembles, including rock bands, concert/marching/jazz bands, orchestra, choir, etc. As a musician, Jon sings, plays piano, drums, and a little bit of trumpet.
